With many businesses temporarily closed and members of the community abiding by the rules and staying home, Gin Gin Police want to remind residents they are still out in force.
As part of the Queensland Police Service COVID-19 response, officers are conducting numerous compliance checks on a daily basis around the area.
This means police are on the road more than ever covering Gin Gin, Mount Perry, South Kolan and the surrounding areas.
Senior Constable Martin Darby said he was very pleased with how members of the community are complying with the restrictions put in place.
“Gin Gin Police request that community members continue this positive approach, however what is concerning is the number of drivers who have been caught exceeding the speed limit,” Senior Constable Darby said.
Over the past seven days, officers have issued a total of 43 traffic infringement notices to drivers for speeding in the region.
Included in this 43 was a maximum speed detected of 149kmh in a 100kmh zone.
Senior Constable Darby said that they were performing hours of traffic compliance and had zero tolerance.
“Gin Gin Police continue to focus on the Fatal Five to ensure the safety of all Queenslanders during this difficult time,” Senior Constable Darby said.
