Tonight 93.1 Triple M will hold a first – an online live concert entitled Concert on the Couch.
The concert, which will be live streamed from the radio station’s website and Facebook page, features local artists Peter Sajko, Derek F Smith, Brendan Egan and Abby Skye.
Breakfast Announcer Justin Bell (JB) said the idea came from the desire to help local musicians.
“Jules and I were talking to Nathan, our general manager, who is a local musician, about the amount of local talent and how they might be struggling,” JB said.
“It got us thinking of ways to help people enjoy that talent from home and to be able to get the artists’ platforms to the forefront through our station.
“We though an online concert would be a great way to keep the local talent front of mind with their fans.
“We’re also hoping to get some buys happening through their individual sites and, most importantly, bring a bit of local fun to people’s homes.”
Supporting local musos
Breakfast Co-host Julia Greenhalf (Jules) said they were pleased to find a way to support local musos doing it tough.
“Having a Bundy-first music sesh means the people of Bundy can kick back on a Friday night, get in their night-time PJs and enjoy a few lemonades to an awesome soundtrack while helping homegrown talent stay afloat,” Jules said.
“The dream is to bring our idea to a recurring rotation!”
Both Triple M Breakfast announcers are relatively new to Bundaberg.
Jules arrived just before Coronavirus, and JB after it started, but both have found the community very welcoming.
“It’s been really hard being away from family and not able to go see them,” JB said.
“In saying that, people have been so kind and welcoming and many people are doing it a lot tougher.”
Jules said it had been strange moving to Bundy in such a horrific time.
“While JB & I would love to get out and about in the flesh, we're finding fun ways to get to know the community,” Jules said.
“It's been incredibly moving to see how the community bands together to stay mentally fit and open for business.”
