Ukulele lessons online at Moncrieff

ukulele music
Free ukulele workshops, hosted by the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre, will be presented by music teacher Cameron Macdonnell online over the next few weeks.

Music lovers can learn a new instrument during COVID-19 restrictions with free ukulele lessons online, streaming every week on Facebook.

Hosted by the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre, the workshops feature local musician and teacher Cameron Macdonnell of Bandwagon Music Lessons.

Cameron said the ukulele lessons online workshops would be released each Monday for four more weeks and were perfect for beginners of any age.

“Each session is about 10 minutes long,” he said.

“The sessions can be viewed on the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre Facebook page.”

Having played music for more than 45 years, Cameron said he had a range of favourite instruments but the sound and simplicity of the ukulele put the tiny guitar high on his list.

“The thing I love most about playing ukulele is it’s just so much fun- you can play on your own or in a group,” he said.

“As well as having fun, ukulele music can be such a good friend.

“It cheers you up when you’re sad and it even makes you happier when you’re happy.”

Cameron said each lesson via the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre Facebook page would teach participants the four main chords that could be applied to mostly any song.

“There are four chords covered – C, Am, F and G7,” he said.

“The sessions also include hints on how to change between the chords as well as a very common strumming pattern.

“Participants can buy songs books from the music shop in town or easily find lots of songs on the internet.”

Cameron's first ukulele workshop was featured last week.

Having played music for almost five decades, Cameron said there was nothing he loved more than passing on his musical knowledge to others.

“My main instrument is guitar – both acoustic and electric- I also play bass guitar and drums,” he said.

“I began teaching music in the region five years ago and before that I taught in Brisbane for close to 30 years.

“The thing I love most about teaching is seeing the pleasure students get out of making music on their instrument.

“It’s also a buzz to see a student finally crack a skill or song that has been challenging them over some time.”
