To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the tragic Childers Backpackers Hostel fire, which claimed 15 young lives, Bundaberg Regional Council produced this special video.
It was originally proposed to hold a commemorative event but the COVID-19 pandemic intervened and precluded travel.
Mayor Jack Dempsey said Council had continued the promise to always remember the 15 people who died.
“We honour this pledge to the families who retain an unbreakable bond with our community,” he said.
“The Council communications team produced a 30-minute video which can now be viewed online around the world.”
The video was written and narrated by former Childers newspaper editor Wayne Heidrich and was filmed and produced by Paul Donaldson.
It includes a message from the British High Commissioner to Australia, Vicki Treadell, on behalf of UK victims and survivors and their families.
