Ohana Winery and Cheeky Tiki Cider have embraced the strawberry season, offering a new Strawberry Moscato.
Fresh Bundaberg strawberries are fermented with Muscat grapes to create this perfectly pink balanced sweet wine, which is the newest offering at the boutique cidery and winery.
Owners Zoe Young and Josh Phillips said the new addition used local strawberry growers and took advantage of the region’s tasty strawberries.
“We all know Bundaberg grows the best strawberries, so we thought it was the perfect excuse to make a bubbly Strawberry Moscato,” Zoe said.
“What’s special about it is the beautiful Bundaberg strawberries that go into it.”
“We work with a great local farmer; Marcus Ashley from Dangleberries, and we got half a tonne of strawberries for our first batch of this.”
“We crushed them down in our new apple mill, which I’m happy to say can handle strawberries and pressed out that beautiful strawberry juice, which was then blended with some musket grape juice and fermented into a strawberry Moscato.”
The result is a sweet, bubbly and fruity strawberry Moscato.
Just over 500 bottles of the tasty strawberry Moscato were made, though Zoe assured consumers that there were plans for another batch.
She said the Moscato is best paired with some of Bundaberg’s own strawberries on the side and is served chilled.
“We have done a sparkling strawberry wine before, but this is the first time we’ve done it as a Moscato.”
“We’ve always been thinking about doing it, but it was just figuring out the logistics to do it and when the strawberry season started up again, we felt there was a chance to give it a crack.”
“People always ask us for a sweeter style wine, and we know Moscato styles are popular in general, so we wanted to put our own twist on it.”
