The weather’s warm but the action will be hot at Skate with Mates events at the Childers and Woodgate Skate Parks this week.
Council, through the Childers Neighbourhood Centre, will be presenting the Red Frog crew and its “Skate with Mates” holiday initiative.
Community services spokesperson Cr Tracey McPhee said the school holidays presented opportunities for Council to provide structured programs with an emphasis on youth participation.
“Our local skate parks become increasingly popular during the school holidays and we welcome the Red Frog team and their program that encourages participation and the opportunity for scooter riders and skateboarders to learn new skills,” Cr McPhee said.
“The team will be at Childers Skate Park this Wednesday between 1pm and 4pm and on Thursday at Woodgate Skate Park from 9am until noon.
“A sausage sizzle is provided and those attending are required to bring along water, sunscreen and a hat.
“In addition to the barbecue and giveaways, these events provide an opportunity to skate with the Red Frog team and to watch some great demonstrations of skateboarding skill,” Cr McPhee said.
Tyler Demartin and Isaiah McLaren-Gates were enjoying the Childers Skate Park earlier this week and are looking forward to Skate with Mates and the visit by the Red Frog Boardriders.
“We enjoy coming to the park and I’m certainly going to be there on Wednesday,” Tyler said.
“What’s not to like about a free barbecue and watching guys pull tricks on a skateboard?”
Red Frogs is a youth support group that was established in 1997 and had its initial impact in attending a Schoolies event at the Gold Coast. The organisation has grown over the years with a mission to combat a culture that is largely dominated by alcohol and other substances.
