Residents had the chance to explore their creative side at a Coffee and Canvas event held at The Pink House in Moore Park Beach recently.

Jodi Warner, from The Pink House, said up to 10 people took part in the beginner painting class, learning all of the techniques to master the skill of using acrylics.

“The workshop was all about how to use acrylics and everybody got to paint something different,” she said.

“Some of the participants painted a sunset, some painted flowers and I painted a clock face, it was great!”

Jodi said the workshops were held on a regular basis and were a fantastic activity for every person of every ability and any age to get involved in.

“Val Chaston, who is 98 years old, was gifted the class for her birthday from her daughter and it was the first painting she has ever done,” Jodi said.

“They did the class together.

“My partner also joined in and he is a truck driver by trade.

“He enjoyed it because it was something different that he wouldn't have usually participated in.”

Coffee and Canvas is held every two weeks at The Pink House at a cost of $25.

“This cost takes care of all of the painting supplies and materials as well as a morning tea,” Jodi said.

“It's a great opportunity to get out of the house and to do some painting in a really beautiful location, overlooking the beach.

“I think a lot of people go into these things not expecting they will be very good but come out feeling very surprised at their own skillset.”

The Pink House is a community centre which hosts a number of workshops every month including macramé, jewellery making and more.
