Experience a different type of art at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery’s Ayuva Meenha exhibition, made up of works that are created using the medium of printmaking.

Ayuva Meenha is the latest solo exhibition by talented Injinoo artist Teho Ropeyarn which showcases a selection of linocut prints.

Each of the prints are different, telling their own story in a cross-section of Ropeyarn’s work that spans the past three years.

Council’s Art, Culture and Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the exhibition was one not to miss with the unique medium used providing the opportunity for a different perspective than that of traditional works.

“This exhibition gives insight into the different stages of Injinoo and the history of the Northern Cape York Peninsula,” Cr Learmonth said.

“Each piece consists of a high level of detail and is well-researched, intelligent and culturally significant.”

While the artworks in the exhibition are not representative of the style of art belonging to his people (the Injinoo peoples), they are an impression of developing what is blurred through a contemporary approach by using elements from body markings to ascertain imagery from his region.

Teho Ropeyarn is an early mid-career artist and curator from the community of Injinoo, Cape York Peninsula, Queensland.

He is a descendant of the Seven Rivers Peoples of Angkamuthi and connected to the Yadhaykana clan group located on the West and East coasts of Northern Cape York Peninsula.

Teho has extended heritage to Moa, Badu and Murray Island in the Torres Strait and Woppaburra – Great Keppel Island and the Batchulla people from Fraser Island.

You can find the exhibition at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery this month in Gallery Two.
