The Department of Transport and Main Roads is planning to start work to upgrade the Bruce Highway and Mittelhauser Road intersection at Wallaville from mid-February.

A department spokesperson said the project involved vegetation clearing for shoulder widening, pavement sealing and line marking, and the installation of dedicated right and left-turn lanes for traffic turning from the Bruce Highway into Mittelhauser Road.

“The installation of dedicated turn lanes will improve safety by eliminating the need for through traffic on the Bruce Highway to slow down for motorists turning into Mittelhauser Road and reducing the likelihood of rear-end crashes,” the spokesperson said.

“RoadTek will be delivering the upgrade, with works generally occurring Monday to Friday between 6am and 6pm.

“The upgrade is expected to be completed in March 2022, weather permitting.”

The TMR spokesperson said changed traffic conditions would be in place during the construction, including reduced speeds, lane closures and stop-go traffic controllers.

There may be minor traffic delays during the works and drivers are urged to drive to the conditions and observe all traffic controller directions.

“TMR thanks the community for its patience while this work is being completed,” the spokesperson said.
