Construction will soon begin at the Goodwood Road and Foleys Road intersection at North Gregory to improve safety in the area.
Works will start this month as part of a $3.79 million package which focuses on various intersections in the Wide Bay Burnett region.
The project is funded under the Australian Government’s Road Safety Program and will improve safety along this stretch of Goodwood Road.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the works would improve commuter safety when using these key routes, protecting tourists and locals.
“We will improve the overall safety of Goodwood Road in North Gregory by adding dedicated right and left-turn lanes at the Foleys Road intersection,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
“Road widening and sealing will also be completed to provide room for the additional turning lanes.
“This project highlights the Australian Government's focus on regional communities by investing in road safety upgrades across Queensland, showing that we are getting it done for Queenslanders.”
Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the upgrades would be delivered as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s record $27.5 billion road and transport plan.
“Safety is on our roads is paramount, which is why we continue to invest in important projects like this that reduce the risk of crashes,” he said.
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said the project complemented other road safety projects currently underway in the region.
“The Australian Government has also allocated $3.023 million to improve intersections in the Wide Bay-Burnett region for motorists and the community,” Mr Pitt said.
“We will continue to invest in and deliver the road infrastructure projects that matter to locals, tourists, businesses and freight operators.”
Queensland Assistant Regional Roads Minister Bruce Saunders said nearly $1.5 billion in road and transport projects would be delivered in the Wide Bay Burnett region alone.
“Locals know how committed we are to improving the safety and reliability of our roads, to ensure Queenslanders are getting home sooner and safer than before,” Mr Saunders said.
“We expect this upgrade to take about two months to complete, weather and conditions permitting, and I appreciate the patience of the community during this time.”
The $1.27 million Goodwood Road and Foleys Road project was jointly funded under Tranche 1 by the Australian Government committing $1,016,000 and the Queensland Government committing the remaining $254,000.
The $3.79 million Goodwood Road project is jointly funded under Tranche 2 – Mass Action works with the Australian Government committing $3,032,000 and the Queensland Government committing $758,000.
RoadTek will undertake the works from Monday to Friday between 6am and 6pm.
Works are expected to take two months to complete, weather and conditions permitting.

Can we please have the Barrett’s Road and Highway, Isis River intersection upgraded with turning lanes from both ways as it is very dangerous to have to sit in the middle of the road to turn right from the south with bare enough room for cars to go around and coming from the north, we maybe able to drive on the shoulder. It cannot turn into the road until right on intersection to go around guide posts. I myself and my family have had several near misses to date let alone the rest of the residents and visitors driving onto Barrett’s Road, Isis River.
