Year on year the arts make up a large part of the highly anticipated Childers Festival, and this year is no exception, with both interactive sessions and the opportunity to see the Childers Arts Space exhibitions on offer.
A number of free arts activities are featured in the festival program including the Art Walk and a Friday Session at Childers Arts Space ensuring there is something for everyone with a love for art.
Council’s Arts, Culture and Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said it was great for people to have the opportunity to engage their creative side while also having the chance to explore what was on offer at the Childers Arts Space.
“There is something for both the young and old in the art events that are part of Childers Festival, and it is fantastic that people can visit the Childers Arts Space and see a local exhibition as part of the four-day event,” Cr Learmonth said.
“It is great to see the Childers Visual Art Group back for another year, offering their interactive Arts in the Park activity on the Saturday before festival day.”
Art events on offer throughout the four-day festival include:
Art Walk
The Childers Arts Space Art Walk provides the opportunity to take a deeper look at the current exhibitions on display, as well as each of the artworks that make up the exhibition.
Afterwards, visitors are invited to a delicious morning tea on the scenic Childers Arts Space verandah, served on the galleries’ vintage crockery collection.
The focus of July’s Art Walk is Meeting History in Miniature by local artist Marilyn Murray.
The exhibition, inspired by Marilyn’s encounters with meeting places and monuments throughout her travels, features 100 miniature paintings, none bigger than the size of a pocket notebook.
Marilyn’s popular artistic style draws the viewer in and takes them on the journey with her.
