Local artists will have a chance to showcase some of their best work in the upcoming Moore Park Beach Arts Festival Art Competition, with entries now being called upon.

Art Competition coordinator and Moore Park Beach Arts Inc Vice President Heather Vanderwaal said there were some exciting changes to this year’s competition.

“We have streamlined categories this year, with 11 sections in total, and have made them more open,” Heather said.

“We also have a new section this year, New Media, which is for contemporary photo media, with the image taken and manipulated using software.

“We have also increased prize money for the winner in each category and are also providing prize money for second place in each section, with over $4,000 in prize money.

“All entrants will once again be in the running for the overall Best In Show – the Pat Walker Memorial Perpetual Trophy, in honour of our beloved former President and Patron of Moore Park Beach Arts Inc”.

Entry is open until Saturday 23 July with forms available on Moore Park Beach Arts Inc’s website, or at The Hub on Sylvan Drive.

“At this stage we are just looking for completed entry forms,” Heather said.

“Artists will then deliver their pieces to the Moore Park Beach Community Hall on Thursday 18 August from 10 am until 1 pm.”

Heather said the competition was a highlight of the Moore Park Beach Arts Festival.

“The Junior Launch and Schools Art Competition Award Ceremony will be held on the morning of Friday 19 August, with the Art Awards Ceremony on the Friday night from 6.30 pm,” she said.

“The Festival will run from 10 am until 7 pm on Saturday 20 August, with something for all the family, including kites and labyrinth on the beach, market stalls, food and drinks, workshops, stage entertainment and all the art on display, culminating in fireworks at 7 pm.

“We’re very excited to be able to showcase our beautiful Moore Park Beach to residents of our region, as well as visitors from near and far.”
