Whether you have a desire to join the Rural Fire Service as a volunteer or want advice on how to prepare your property for bushfire season, the upcoming RFS open days are the perfect opportunity to find out more.

Boolboonda and Booyan Rural Fire Brigades are hosting open days for the community to visit the stations and find out about the different operations of the RFS.

There will also be opportunities to ask questions about getting fire ready.

Bundaberg’s RFS Acting Area Training and Support Officer Peter Carlsen said the open days were extremely valuable for the community.

“It is important because the local brigades are part of the community, made up of members of the community and it is a chance to see what goes on and what the guys in yellow do,” Peter said.

“The idea of the open days is that it provides the chance for people within the community to come down and have a look at the rural fire brigade and the equipment.

“They are not just for potential members but also for anyone interested in bushfire safety or people who are interested in finding out how to prepare their property and survival plans in place, they are also a good chance to discuss the permit to light system also.”
