A basketball competition, markets, tree planting, live music and a car show will form part of a special event at Nardoo Nursery next week to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The jubilee recognises The Queen’s Green Canopy in the UK, which raises awareness of the importance of planting trees.
The Australian Government is following in the Queen’s footsteps by offering grants to engage the community to plant trees to protect the future environment.
To mark the occasion, Nardoo Nursery will host a free event from 9 am to 12 pm on Saturday 12 November.
Horticulture manager Anne Davies said as well as planting 50 canopy trees, the organisation would also provide a day of entertainment for the community to enjoy.
“Nardoo Nursery is a social enterprise of Community Lifestyle Support and was able to gain funding as a grant for the tree planting and this event,” she said..
“We will be giving away 300 native tube stocks, one per family, on the day.”
Anne said there would be something for everyone in the family as part of the event.
“There will be live music and the Bundaberg Vintage Car Club will be showing off their amazing cars,” she said.
“We will be running a basketball competition with three age groups, there will also be a big market on with plenty of stalls and Nardoo Nursery will have lucky door prizes.
“There is plenty of shade and seating and people are welcome to enjoy the six acres of lawns and gardens.”
The event will run from 9 am to 12 pm at Nardoo Nursery, 48 Ashfield Road.
Dogs are welcome on leads.
