Childers friends and families are invited to celebrate the festive spirit with a Christmas community luncheon and mini cent sale.
Childers Community Christmas Luncheon has been held for a number of years and encourages people to come together to share the joy of Christmas.
Community Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tracey McPhee said the annual event was open to the entire community.
“Christmas can be a very stressful and lonely time of the year,” Cr McPhee said.
“Many residents have families that live out of the area, and they may not have the opportunity to spend Christmas with them.
“While others don’t have family to share the special day with.
“Our Christmas community luncheon brings everyone together to enjoy a lunch, each other’s company, music and of course winning something special at the cent sale.
“It’s about making people feel less lonely, providing Christmas cheer and connection.
“The morning will start with a mini cent sale before a delicious Christmas inspired lunch.”
Cr McPhee said each year the Childers Christmas Community Luncheon had an average of 100 residents attend.
The Childers Christmas Community Luncheon will start at 10.30 am on Wednesday 14 December at Isis Club, cost is $20.
RSVP by 9 December to Childers Neighbourhood Centre by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 4130 4690.
Also helping to spread the Christmas cheer, the team have combined with Isis Child and Family Support Service to host a community playgroup Christmas party.
“All families are invited to join in the end of year celebrations with the playgroup Christmas party,” Cr McPhee said.
“I’ve heard there will be a special guest stopping by to check in with the boys and girls to see who has been good this year!”
Isis Child and Family Support Service Playgroup Christmas Party will be held on Tuesday 6 December at 9.30 to 11.30 am at the Child and Family building, 14 Hinkler Street, Childers.
There is no cost, but parents are reminded to take along a wrapped book with their child’s name written on the front for Santa to hand out, and a plate of food to share.
