Community members can get even more excited for Lighthouse Country as bull riding and barrel racing entertainment joins the festival’s line up.
Lighthouse Country will be held in Burnett Heads on 29-30 April and features artists Lee Kernaghan, Adam Brand, Beccy Cole, Travis Collins, Casey Barnes and many more, as well as two days of rodeo events.
Lighthouse Country organisers believe country music and rodeo go hand-in-hand, so the Lighthouse bull ride will feature stock from Weller Rodeo Productions as well as all the action of barrel racing.
Dean Weller has been rodeoing since he was five years old, competed in the US 16 times and ridden at the senior world titles in Las Vegas three times.
He was awarded life membership of the National Rodeo Association in Australia in 1994.
Dean said mixing bulls, barrel racing and the country music festival was a great match.
“Most of the people who go to country music festivals are country-oriented, they might not be from the country but they want that lifestyle and that feeling and the bull riding and barrels go with that,” he said.
“They’re trying to experience the whole deal – the music and the rodeo part of it – so they’re getting the whole benefit of it.
“As well as the bulls, some people like to see the ladies’ barrel racing and the U18s barrel racing.
“People also like to see the thrills and spills of bulls throwing guys in the air.
“Whey they say, ‘we want to see a really good bull ride’, they want to see the bulls throwing them in the air, see fellas get thrown and chased and the adrenalin of it all.”
Lighthouse Country will feature two separate bull rides across Saturday and Sunday, meaning competitors get the chance to compete for two lots of prize money.
The inaugural Lighthouse Country music festival is set to feature big names including Lee Kernaghan, Adam Brand, Beccy Cole, and Casey Barnes.
