Celebrate Harmony Day with the Isis Multicultural Group as members enjoy different cultures from around the world in Childers.

Isis Multicultural Group president Robert Maisey said the morning would be an opportunity for the community to come together at Millennium Park to celebrate diversity.

Harmony Week is the annual celebration that recognises diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.

It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

“Here in Childers, we celebrate Harmony Day instead of Harmony Week,” he said.

“It’s a real multicultural event we’ve been doing this for about 20 years now.

“It’s a chance for everybody to come together to be harmonious.”

Robert said this year Isis Multicultural Group would host the event on Saturday 18 March.

“It will be an inclusive morning in the park with Filipino dancing and entertainment,” he said.

“We’ll have our Australian-themed sausage on sandwich.

“It’s being held on a weekend so everyone could be involved.”

He said Harmony Day was significant because it connected people from all walks of life.

“It’s important for us as a nation to hold events like Harmony Day,” Robert said.

“It’s not good to divide a nation or one another because of differences.

“This is definitely a highlight event for us as a group.

“Anyone, from any background, can come and join in – it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
