EDON Place hosts Walk for Awareness

Walk for Awareness
Hosted by EDON Place, Walk for Awareness is open to everyone and will honour victims who lost their lives due to domestic and family violence in 2023.

The community is being invited to participate in a Walk for Awareness event as part of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

Hosted by EDON Place, the walk is open to everyone and will honour victims who lost their lives due to domestic and family violence in 2023.

Residents have been requested to join EDON Place in remembering and paying respects to the 22 victims by coming together for a peaceful walk around the Bywash Park, where memorial sights have been placed alongside a candle and red rose paying tribute to each victim.

The organisation will also officially launch the new look EDON Place Foundation at the event.

President of the EDON Place Management Committee Scott Lamond said the launch of the ‘Foundation for Donation’ was an exciting step for the community.

“The foundation formalises the tremendous support EDON Place already receives and opens the door for more businesses and individuals to support the wonderful work that EDON Place delivers within our community,” he said.

“Donations are fully tax deductible and can be directed to our temporary supported accommodation for victims, the perpetrator intervention program, the women’s counselling and support program or the children’s counselling and support program.”

Scott said the launch of the foundation coincided with the 2023 Walk for Awareness event being held on Friday 19 May at 7.30 am at Bywash Park, Flint Street South Bundaberg.

“EDON Place has been involved in various events throughout Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month and the community support has been outstanding,” he said.

“People are coming together with a common vision to end domestic violence.”
