Held alongside the touring ‘Pub Rock' photographic exhibit, the five-hour workshop will cater for viola, violin, cello and double bass players and will be held this Sunday 16 July.

Local youth will have a chance to share in a unique experience at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery in a workshop featuring a musical repertoire of rock, inspired by a recently installed exhibition.

Held alongside the touring ‘Pub Rock‘ photographic exhibit, the five-hour workshop will cater for viola, violin, cello and double bass players and will be held this Sunday 16 July.

The event offers the opportunity for participants to share in music making together and to explore and immerse themselves intensively in the wonderous world of string playing within a friendly, supportive, and social environment.

Under the tuition of professional musician Andrea Ng, participants will learn classic Australian rock songs, improve their skills as musicians and boost their confidence.

Bookings for this opportunity will be open to string musicians aged eight to 18 years, playing to a AMEB Grade 2 and above.

After graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance in 2009, Andrea Ng, a highly skilled and sought-after violist, has played at some of the highest levels of the orchestral music world.

This includes Singapore National Youth Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival and Sydney Sinfonia.

Andrea was principal viola of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra for two years and associate principal viola of Sydney Youth Orchestra in 2005.

She has worked with the world’s top musicians, members of the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, and principal players of major orchestras in the USA and Japan.

Arts, Culture and Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the event would be one not to miss.

“We are privileged to welcome the professional calibre of this workshop to the series of arts and cultural events held across Bundaberg Regional Galleries,” he said.

“We encourage young string enthusiasts to book at their earliest convenience to secure their place in this dedicated workshop, usually only seen in metropolitan centres.”
