Celebrate Get Online Week with a series of fun and informative events at the Bundaberg Library.

Bundaberg Regional Library is celebrating Get Online Week with a series of fun and informative events aimed at increasing digital inclusion.

Get Online Week is funded by Bundaberg Regional Council and the Good Things Foundation, a social change charity helping people to improve their lives through digital connection.

Council’s Arts, Culture and Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the week would promote access to information, online safety, creativity, innovation and social inclusion.

“Participants would have a better understanding of digital tools for research and creativity whilst meeting new people with similar interest and curiosities,” Cr Learmonth said.

Be Connected: High Tea and Talk

Be Connected: High Tea and Talk Get Online Week at the Library
The Be Connected: High Tea and Talk will focus the popular lyric poem, The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe.

Get Online week starts with a free Edgar Allen Poe high tea event set to stimulate both the mind and taste buds.

Focusing on the popular lyric poem, The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, the event will be decorated in Raven theme with the catering also reflecting the verse.

Dr Rena MacLeod from CQ University will be delivering an informative talk about Poe’s The Raven.

Guests will learn from this discussion how to find information online and critically evaluate those sources using information literacy techniques.

A fun and factual Raven trivia game will be played, with gifts and prizes awarded.

Be Connected: Digital drawing workshop

The library’s digital drawing workshop is the perfect opportunity to learn how to get creative online.

The session will guide participants through the fundamentals of creating art using the powerful Procreate software.

Be Connected: Artificial Intelligence

The world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it’s transforming modern lives will be explored during the last event for Get Online Week.

Discussion will focus on generative AI including Large Language Models (LLM) and empathy models and image generation software like Stable Diffusion and Midjourney.

Conversation will also centre on the ethical side of Artificial Intelligence.
