Vanessa Quai Pacific Songbird will soar at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre as the first show in the theatre for 2024.

Vanessa Quai and Melissa Buchholz are two highly respected musicians, who have forged successful professional careers and are now coming together from across the Pacific, creating this inspirational show.

Vanessa has recorded 10 albums with her first album recorded at just nine years of age.

The show will showcase songs from throughout her expansive career and combines Melissa’s talents as a pianist, to create a new take on these arrangements.

Melissa said she had been travelling to Vanuatu for several years to support friends and an impoverished school.

“Earlier this year I took four of my flute students to Vanuatu and they played some concerts in different places and got to know lots of local children,” Melissa said.

“It was a wonderful trip for them, and for me I reached out to Vanessa Quai and we met for the first time.

“She came to where I was staying, and we had a sing and play together.

“We really hit it off and the idea was born that maybe she could come over to Australia and do some concerts with me.

“It’s been a challenging process, but we are really looking forward to a wonderful tour in January and February.

“Vanessa’s music is uplifting and positive in every way.

“She is a talented songwriter, and her music is known all across the South Pacific.

“She is known as a ‘living cultural icon’!

“The audience can expect to be entertained by some great music covering many genres – from gospel to pop and reggae.”

She said she was looking forward to returning to Bundaberg.

“I personally have adjudicated the Bundaberg Eisteddfod a number of years ago – in fact I was in the Moncrieff Theatre for parts of that.”
