Members of the Bundaberg 4WD Club Inc recently attended a weekend at the club's campsite to participate in a “Drive and Recover a 4WD vehicle” course as part of a nationally recognised qualification conducted by the clubs three accredited trainers.

Four Wheel Drive Queensland, as the Registered Training Organisation, has set up this great resource for our financial club members to hone their skills and receive the certificate.

Before attending this course, it was expected that participants had already attended a range of trips over a reasonable period to gain knowledge and experience within their vehicle’s capabilities, over a range of off-road terrain types.

This course is not designed to teach the theory of four wheel driving but to assess the skills that members had already gained.

Attendees needed to demonstrate the competencies against the standards of RIIVEH305F – Operate and maintain a four wheel drive, to achieve their qualification.

Preparing for four wheel driving, pre-departure checks, stall stops/starts on steep inclines, recovery procedures to extract a vehicle bogged using the appropriate devices and exercises including flat tyre changing form part of the course to make sure everyone was up to date on the safest methods to four wheel drive and how to minimise environmental impact.

The weekend was a great chance for members to sharpen their skills and put into practice some of the techniques they may not have needed in a while.

The course was partially funded by a grant received from the Bundaberg Regional Council Community Grants Program and we are thankful for the support.
