Colour My World to showcase creativity

The IDSS community has been busy creating art pieces to include in an upcoming exhibition titled Colour My World.

People of all abilities who are supported by Integrated Disability Support Services will soon showcase their artistic skills as part of the upcoming Colour My World exhibition.

The community of IDSS has been busy creating art pieces to include in the August event, to be held at the Book Boutique Bundaberg.

Group facilitator Alison Esposito said participants had been given the time and space to create pieces that reflected their interests while showcasing and providing insight into their creative abilities.

“Our art group, craft group and any individual that is supported by IDSS has been encouraged to exhibit a piece of art (or several) – this being the very first time they have displayed their art to the public,” she said.

“Our community embraces all disabilities and our creative programs are provided in a safe and inclusive environment where people have a sense of community, inclusion and the freedom to step outside their comfort zone.”

Alison said the upcoming exhibition was a creative outlet for participants and a way to improve their wellbeing.

“Our art program has helped to improve individuals social connectivity, developing a new level of confidence and success and improving their wellbeing including reducing anxiety, feelings of loneliness and a sense of belonging,” she said.

“We hope this exhibition will give the greater community an insight into these amazing individuals who have taken up the challenge to open up their heart and showcase their creative abilities.”
