Woodgate Bowls

Tuesday 2 July: Who said Representative Lady Bowlers weren’t a determined bunch, today they played the Bundaberg District Champion of Champions Pairs in what can only be described as ‘trying’ conditions! Read rain, cold and to be honest miserable weather.

Social bowls was called off due to rain but the Champion of Champions soldiered on! The mornings games saw Bargara winning against ATW on an eventual forfeit.Gin Gin winning against Brother’s again on a forfeit. The afternoons games saw Bundaberg Club having a win over Burnett 19/16.

Moore Park having a win over Gin Gin and our own Jane and Fiona having a win for Woodgate over Elliott Heads 19/17. Despite the weather there were some good bowls played and will be again tomorrow for the semifinal and final!

Semifinals to be played in the morning will see Bargara play Bundaberg and Woodgate play Moore Park. The two winners will play the final in the afternoon, should be some great bowls played so rug up and come down and support our Ladies!

Wednesday 3 July: Much better day weather wise for a game of bowls, bit of a cool breeze but the sun is out and the rain has gone. In the morning we had the semi finals of the Champion of Champions Ladies District Pairs. The strong Bargara team of Adele Pershouse (sk) and Connie Rixon had a win over Bundaberg Marcia Nicol (sk) and Kerry Mitchell.

Woodgate’s team of Fiona Dowling (sk) and Jane Herd-Evans had a win over Moore Parks Helen Morton (sk) and Tanya Adams. The final was played in the afternoon and what a game it was! The Woodgate Ladies started slowly and were down 4/13 on end 13.

A 3 on end 14 took the score to 7/13, another 3 on end 15 and the score sat at 10/13. End 16 a 2  and end 17 a 1 evened the score at 13 all. What a game, however the even score caused Bargara to dig their heals in scoring a 1, then a 3, another 3 and a 1 to take the game 20/13.

Fiona and Jane played very well keeping a lot of ends to only one point against the more experienced Bargara players. Congratulations to all players throughout the competition, we here at Woodgate are particularly proud of our girls Fiona and Jane for the way they played and conducted themselves while representing us all. Special thanks to Jess Cannon who stood as Umpire for the day.

Wednesday 3 July Men's Day: I hate to say it men but after the excitement of the Ladies Final, social men's bowls was a bit……tame! Winning rink draw Rink 3: Bill Hooke Ray Close Brian Cornish  Runners Up: Rink 7:Wayne Stanley C. Ormerad S. Suwinski. Encouragement: Rink 5: Paul Jarred Mc? Brian Thorpe.

Thursday 4 July Oyster and Fee’s Day: After the excitement of yesterday a friendly social game was the order of the day. Winning rink draw Rink 11: Graham Ashcroft Pam Watson Gary Ridley Runners Up: Rink 13: Marilyn Brenner Geoff Robinson

Saturday 6 July: Today we had a game in the mens B grade Singles between Dean Kulbars and Micheal McNaughton resulting in a win to the more experienced Dean. Thanks to Trevor Christensen, marker and Rob Anderson, Umpire.

Social Self Select Pairs: Winning rink draw:  Rink 3:Laurie Power Trev Schultz Runners Up: Rink 2: Jacquie Rogerson John Copland Sunday7.07.2024:Not the best of weather today, intermittent showers chased the social bowlers off but not our hardy Ladies playing competition!

Ladies Open Triples: Team Fiona: Linda Hannah, Donna Smith and skip Fiona Dowling Had a win over. Team Cheryl: Judy Stanley, Rhonda Byrnes and Cheryl Goodhew.

Ladies Open Consistency: Robyn Bishop had a win over Gloria Newby. 126/119 Thanks to Meredith Taylor (she of the big stick) who marked the game and special thanks to Rob Anderson who was Umpire for the day. Winning Rink Draws: Winners: Rink 6: Robbie Byrnes Steve Oliver First Runner Up: Rink 14: Ladies Consistency.
