Local businesswoman and industry trailblazer Sonja Pressler-McHugh of McHugh Steel was one of the local winners honoured at the 2024 Housing and Construction Awards, taking home the Women in Building Award.
It was a full house at the Bundaberg Multiplex Centre on Saturday 27 July as the best in the business gathered to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the local industry in the Wide Bay Burnett.
Sonja and the McHugh Steel team also celebrated winning Commercial/Industrial Building from $5 million up to $15 million for the New Commercial Factory by McHugh Steel Framing.
High-end home builder Joshua Ellis from Ellis Home and Construction was honoured with the Rising Star Award, while he and his team were also awarded Individual Home from $400,000 up to $550,000 for The Sa-Guaro.
Another winner in the individual category, was Deegan Young from Ramage Building who took home the Apprentice of the Year Award.
Hutchinson Builders took home the 2024 Wide Bay Burnett Project of the Year Award for Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, a cutting-edge facility encompassing brewing, warehousing, offices, and logistics.
It was also a triple for Dobson Homes & Constructions, who took home the prized BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award, plus Best Residential Bathroom and Individual Home from $700,000 up to $850,000 for beachside beauty Bargara Palms.
Master Builders Regional Manager Wide Bay Burnett Ian Langer, congratulated the winners across all 34 categories.
“The past year has presented numerous challenges, but our industry has shown its remarkable resilience once again,” Ian said.
“This year’s entries have truly set a new standard.
“Each project and individual winner has put their own stamp on their work, exhibiting the determination, skill and excellence in construction that Master Builders members are renowned for – a nice problem for this year’s panel of judges to have.
“I extend my congratulations to all this year’s nominees and winners, and to everyone who plays a vital role in our industry in our region.
