A day at the races is always filled with excitement, and this year’s Ulton Race Day was no exception.

While guests enjoyed a day of fun, fashion, and thrilling races, the real winners were those benefiting from Ulton’s generous community support.

This year, the spotlight was on Jeremiah House, a Bundaberg-based initiative providing safe, affordable housing and support services to vulnerable individuals and families.

“Ulton Race Day is our way of showing appreciation to our clients, associates, and employees,” Ulton Partner Jamie Rach shared.

“It’s an opportunity to enjoy great company and local racing while also giving back to the community.

“This year, we raised a total of $46,071 at the 2024 Ulton Race Day and Bundaberg Social Club fundraisers.”

The proceeds will support vital community services across the region:

  • Bundaberg: $20,000 to Jeremiah House, supporting affordable housing and services for vulnerable and working-poor individuals.
  • Hervey Bay: $20,000 to Neighbourhood Centre’s Comfort Kitchen, offering free meals and support to those in need.
  • Gladstone: $6,071 to Roseberry Qld, aiding local community welfare initiatives.

“We’re incredibly proud to contribute to these organisations, supporting those who need it most in the communities we serve<” Jamie said.

Jeremiah House plays a vital role in Bundaberg by addressing the urgent issue of homelessness and affordable housing.

Founded by community members passionate about social welfare, the organisation creates supportive, low-cost housing solutions for people in need.

Their projects range from an op shop—affectionately named “Jerry’s”—that helps fund initiatives to the development of a future cabin village where individuals can find affordable, safe housing.

“We want to create a place where the working poor can find affordable, long-term options—essentially a place to call home without being burdened by rising rents,” Founder Robert Stoker explained.

Mr. Stoker also highlighted the critical role of community support in Jeremiah House’s journey.

“Everything you see in our shop is from the Bundaberg community,” he said.

“We wouldn’t be here without their generosity.

“Ulton’s donation is a powerful reminder that when local businesses stand with us, we can make a real difference.”

Ulton’s 2024 support for Jeremiah House aligns with the firm’s commitment to helping local charities that address urgent community needs.

The focus on homelessness was inspired by a visible increase in need throughout the region.

“Each year, we choose a charity to support, and this year, with homelessness being so prevalent, Jeremiah House felt like the perfect fit,” Jamie said.

Peter Symes, Co-Founder of Jeremiah House, expressed gratitude for Ulton’s support, noting the transformative impact the donation will have on their ability to serve the community.

“This donation allows us to take a little bit of the pressure off people who are just starting to rebuild,” he said.

“It’s more than just providing shelter—it’s about providing dignity, stability, and a real opportunity for people to move forward.”

In addition to immediate support, Jeremiah House is looking toward larger goals, including a proposed 200-cabin village project to address housing shortages in Bundaberg.

The initiative aims to create affordable housing solutions in the community and requires public support to secure suitable land for development.

“We’re calling on local landowners and community members to help make this project a reality,” Peter said.

“With Ulton’s donation and continued community support, we’re hopeful we can establish more long-term solutions to homelessness here in Bundaberg.”

Jeremiah House is also excited to announce the upcoming Maryborough project, aimed at expanding affordable housing solutions in the region.

The initiative involves the purchase of an old pub, which they plan to transform into accommodation.

“Support from our community is essential to our mission at Jeremiah House,” Peter said.

“We invite everyone to get involved—whether through participating in our raffles, donating items to our op shop, or even considering land donations for future projects.

“Every effort, no matter how small, helps us provide affordable housing and vital support services to those in need.

“Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals and families in our community.”

Through Ulton’s generous contribution, Jeremiah House will continue to impact lives in Bundaberg, providing not only homes but a fresh start for those in need.

“Ulton’s generous donation to Jeremiah House is not just a financial gift; it is a lifeline for those in need of affordable housing and essential services,” Peter said.
