Wintergarden opens again for performance

O, Ophelia scene 2025: JUTE Theatre Company.

BridgeWorx, a business unit of Bridges Health & Community Care, is making history by reopening the iconic Wintergarden Theatre for its first live performance in decades.

On March 27 at 7 pm, audiences will step inside this stunning heritage venue for the highly anticipated regional tour of O, Ophelia—a powerful new work produced by JUTE Theatre Company and Overall Arts, written and directed by Amber Grossmann.

This bold and visually striking production tells the story of sixteen-year-old Ophelia, who dreams of escaping her small-town life in Far North Queensland.

When she meets Hamish, an older, charismatic rebel, the promise of adventure quickly takes a darker turn, leading her into a world of coercive control and hidden dangers.

O, Ophelia is a deeply moving exploration of resilience, self-discovery, and the power of reclaiming one’s own story.

Chorus directed by Regional Director Cheryl Ratcliffe, and featuring local chorus talent Stella Hutchins, Bridgette McMahon and Eva Grace McGrail.

“Supporting Queensland artists and regional touring productions is crucial for keeping arts and culture alive beyond the big cities,” Bridges CEO Sharon Sarah said.

“Regional audiences deserve access to high-quality theatre that sparks conversations and inspires change.

“By attending O, Ophelia, you’re not only witnessing creative and powerful storytelling but also helping to create a thriving arts scene in Bundaberg.”

Don’t miss this exciting moment and first chance opportunity to see Wintergarden come to life again.
