Bundaberg Regional Council has resolved to put its Miara and Burnett Heads Holiday Parks out to long-term lease to allow the facilities to grow and thrive.
Tourism portfolio spokesperson Cr Steve Cooper said Council hoped by releasing the properties for written tenders Council could attract proponents that could invest and grow the parks into the future.
“Visitor demand at the region’s holiday parks is ever increasing which creates an opportunity for a private manager to invest in the parks’ facilities so more people can visit and enjoy our region,” Cr Cooper said.
“As a Council we have so many competing priorities for investment and our focus needs to remain on the essential infrastructure and services that deliver maximum benefit for our ratepayers and residents.
“That’s why we’ve decided to invite submissions through a public tender from qualified and experienced operators to lease the holiday park for a term of 10 years.”
Cr Cooper said both holiday park properties had permanent tenants and Miara also had Long Term Holiday Site occupants and it was Council’s intention that these agreements would be transferred to the new lessee to manage.
“We have already written directly to all long term and permanent residents to ensure they were aware that this decision was a possibility and to advise them it was Council’s intention that their agreements would be transferred to the new Trustee Lessee to manage.
“Should the tender process prove successful Council will work with the new lessee to ensure a smooth transition with no interruptions to the park’s day to day operations.
“In fact, what this process would achieve is an opportunity to add value and improve and build upon the holiday parks’ existing facilities.”
Council made the decision to seek written tenders in its 25 March Ordinary Meeting ahead of the expiry of its current management agreements at the holiday parks.
In accordance with section 228 of the Local Government Regulation 2012, Council will invite written tenders for the lease of the land and buildings at both the Burnett Heads Holiday Park and Miara Holiday Park at for a term of 10 years.
