Recycling is a great way to help reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill, but it can be hard to know where to start.
Here are some simple tips from Council’s Waste and Recycling team that can get help your household.
- Keep it clean
Scrape out all food containers before placing them into the yellow bin.
You can also give it a quick rinse if you are unsure its clean. This helps to prevent contamination and ensures the recycling process runs smoothly. - Make sorting simple
Keep a separate sorting basket for recyclables in your kitchen, laundry and/or bathroom.
Remember that some items are made up recyclable and non-recyclable materials. Non-recyclable materials, such as soft plastics, need to be removed before placing items into the recycle bin. - Alternative disposal
Items such as old clothes, toys and batteries are not suitable for recycling through your yellow lid bin but can still be recycled through alternative disposal programs offered by community organisations and retailers.
