Cheer on local high school students at the upcoming PCYC Bundaberg Young Murri Touch Footy Tournament, with the competition set for Sunday 22 June at Nielson Beach, Bargara.
Youth Club Program Manager, Luke Handley, shares more information about the event below.
What inspired you to organise this event?
The PCYC Bundaberg Young Murri Touch Footy Tournament was created upon the cancellation of the PCYC Bunburra 2025 Beach Touch Football Tournament to be held in the Gold Coast.
Luke did not want the Frist Nations youth of Bundaberg to miss out, therefore, together with Bundaberg Regional Council, he commenced planning a local beach touch football event for the local youth to compete and enjoy against teams across the region.
What are the main activities attendees can look forward to?
The PCYC Bundaberg Young Murri Touch Footy Tournament will be held on Nielson Beach, Bargara, on Sunday 22 June between 9 am – 2 pm.
The event will include multiple 10-minute games of beach touch football for the nominated teams with additional beach sprints, finals a BBQ lunch and prizes.
How can community members get involved in this event?
This event gives our community the opportunity to spectate and participate in PCYC Bundaberg’s inaugural First Nations Beach Touch Footy Tournament.
Community members are welcome to come and support the youth participating in this event.
Are there any local businesses or organisations partnering with you for this event?
We have partnered with Bundaberg Regional Council (assisting with the planning of the event), Let Hope Arise Community Outreach (cooking the barbecue for the event) and Bunya Peoples Aboriginal Corporation who have generously sponsored jerseys for the participants to wear and keep.
What is your vision for the future of this event and how do you hope participants will feel after participating?
We would love to make this an annual event.
We believe participants will feel appreciated and thoroughly enjoy themselves in what is set to be a fun filled day of footy, food and prizes.
How can people stay updated on announcements related to this event?
You can find updates about this event on our social media pages or Bundaberg Regional Council’s Be Active Bundy Region Facebook page.
