The signing of a Welcoming Cities Commitment means the region is now part of a national network as Bundaberg Regional Council continues to foster inclusion, engagement and participation.
Welcoming Cities is a national network of towns and cities committed to creating an environment where everyone can participate in all aspects of community life.
Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said that by signing the commitment, the Bundaberg Region would officially join the Welcoming Cities Network.
“We want to make sure that the Bundaberg Region is a place where everyone feels they can take part in social, cultural and civic life,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“By joining the Welcoming Cities Network, Council will have access to a range of resources to support a whole-of-community approach to achieving this.
“The Bundaberg Region is a great place to live and this commitment will bolster our efforts to continue building social inclusion, economic engagement and civic participation.”
The Welcoming Cities Network includes the following elements:
- Knowledge sharing: Supporting local councils and communities to learn from each other and access resources, research, policies and case studies.
- Partnership development: Brokering meaningful multi-sector partnerships that foster a sense of belonging and participation for all members of the community.
- Celebrating success: Showcasing leading practice through case studies and a national award that encourages welcoming efforts.
- Standard and accreditation: Setting the National Standard for cultural diversity and inclusion policy and practice in Local Government.
