Two new state-of-the-art ventilators are now in use at the Friendly Society Private Hospital’s Critical Care Unit, providing high-quality, high-tech care for patients.
The ventilators combine ease of use, flexibility and advanced features to deliver intelligent ventilation therapies, tailored to patient needs.
Mechanical ventilation supports oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange, breathing for the patient when they can’t do it for themselves.
Nurse Unit Manager Shaun Stallan said the new Hamilton C-6 ventilators would benefit and improve outcomes for critically unwell patients who require this high level of respiratory support.
He said it was exciting to have the new ventilators in the unit, doubling the capacity to care for intubated patients when required.
“We are now able to wean patients from invasive ventilation onto other modes of non-invasive ventilation, with a more streamlined approach,” Mr Stallan said.
An education session was recently held for the registered nurses working in the Critical Care Unit.
“Staff are appreciating the simplicity of the Hamilton C-6,” Mr Stallan said.
According to the manufacturer, the ventilators are designed for easy handling and manoeuvrability.
“The ventilation cockpit consolidates the monitoring data and displays it as intuitive graphics. These provide a quick overview of the patient’s current ventilation status and provides a reliable basis for therapy decisions.”
The Friendlies’ Critical Care Unit has nine beds and employs around 20 registered nurses and four Resident Medical Officers.
