Craig Holden says beachgoers can look forward to great weather over the weekend, with sunny skies, light and variable winds and more mild temperatures.
Weather
Well, it has been another great week of weather and beach conditions, with mostly light to moderate winds, blue skies and mild temperatures – although we did have a pretty gloomy and overcast day on Tuesday.
However, as we look ahead to today and then across the weekend, there is nothing but good news for beach goers – sunny skies, light and variable winds, and more mild temperatures!
It is really shaping up to be a great weekend of beach weather!
The wind forecast for today and then across the weekend is almost identical with variable winds at 5 to 8 knots forecast for all three days – these winds will be offshore (SW to S/SW) through the early mornings before eventually swinging to be light onshore and from the E/NE to N/NE through the very late afternoons.
Swimming
Swimming conditions have been pretty good during this past week, with mostly calm and mild ocean conditions, with the ocean temperature still remaining to be quite mild.
These good swimming conditions will continue through today and across the weekend as well thanks to the super-light winds forecast and will probably even get even better – especially through the mornings.
With this in mind, the best time for swimmers to hit the beach will be through the mornings while the winds are very light and offshore, but if you are chasing the high tide then hit the beach in the very early mornings or again during the late afternoon.
All beaches will provide calm and mild swimming conditions too, so no need to thin any beach will better than others!
Please check with the Lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages, AND most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!
Beach patrols
Today and weekdays – 9 am to 5 pm at Agnes Water only
Saturday and Sunday – 9 am to 5 pm at Kelly’s Beach and Agnes Wayer only
Surfing
Local board-riders have not been able to enjoy too much in terms of quality waves this week – well not since last Saturday anyway – but there have been plenty of very small, clean longboard waves about for those desperate to get wet.
The forecast for the coming days is not great either in terms of waves, BUT at least the wind will be light, so the ocean will be smooth and calm for the most part so expect more very small, but clean waves about through the mornings that will only be suited to the longboards or SUP’s.
Early to mid-morning will likely be best, with all beaches expected to be fairly similar. Good Luck.
For the SUP and Ocean Ski paddlers, there will not be much wind at all over the coming days to produce a slick downwind run, so instead enjoy the smoother conditions on offer for a gentle and more relaxed paddle at the beach – and maybe a few small, clean waves.
