If you love movies, you’ll be Starstruck over this upcoming exhibition!
The National Portrait Gallery and the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia present a new star-studded exhibition, Starstruck: On Location opening at Childers Art Space this weekend.
Bundaberg Regional Council's Community and Cultural Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said Starstruck explores the striking portraits emerging from 100 years of Australian movies.
“It features famous Australian actors and iconic films, as well as highlighting the lesser-known early years of our film industry,” Cr Peters said.
“While we usually enjoying viewing our favourite movie stars on the big screen, this exhibition focuses on a more candid approach, with photos capturing the actors at work and the characters they are playing.”
NFSA curator Jennifer Coombes was thrilled at the collaboration between the two institutions in developing an exhibition looking at Australia’s movie history from the early 1900s through to today.
“We’re excited because many of the photos, which have been preserved in our vast collection of publicity shots and behind-the-scenes images, will be available to the public for the very first time,” she said.

The opening of the exhibition will be coupled with a film screening of Strictly Ballroom at the Paragon Theatre, giving visitors a double-movie experience to enjoy.
“Attend the glamorous opening of Starstruck at Childers Arts Space then swirl and twirl at the Paragon Theatre with the screening of Strictly Ballroom – the final film in Baz Lurhmann’s Red Curtain Trilogy,” Cr Peters said.
Make your own way, or catch the bus from Bundaberg for the opening.
A bus will leave Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery at 3pm on Saturday.
Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages plus a selection of savoury and sweet treats available for purchase at the Paragon's espresso bar.
Tickets are $25 and includes bus transport from Bundaberg, the opening event with drinks and tasty treats, movie.
