It will be an unforgettable night of beloved classical music as Camerata performs, alongside a new Australian composition, at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre.

Camerata in Concert features a 15-piece orchestra that will showcase the works of Italian Baroque violin virtuoso Locatelli Dvorak’s radiant Serenade for Strings and more.

Camerata Artistic Director Brendan Joyce said the chamber orchestra was completely unconducted so the audience would witness the intensity of the musicians as they work together in the spirt of chamber music.

“There’s nowhere to hide and every player has to play equally well for the best possible result, so it’s quite exciting,” Mr Joyce said.

“One of the highlights will be the world premiere of Camerata’s 2024 Composer-in-Residence, Alexandra Mison’s new piece commissioned by Camerata.

“It follows a long tradition of local audiences loving new music commissioned by Camerata.

“We are passionate about and committed to sharing the joy of music with audiences throughout Queensland, and beyond, and we give it equal importance to mainstage concerts in major cities.

“I’ve always thought of Bundaberg as a string centre, a bit of a string Mecca.

“Several Camerata players have come from Bundy over the decades and we have had great experiences there on previous visits.”

Bundaberg Youth Orchestra will be guest performers

Joining Camerata on stage to perform during the show will be the Bundaberg Youth Orchestra.

Bundaberg Youth Orchestra Assistant Conductor Delwyn Ainsworth said the conductors couldn’t wait to have their members meet with Camerata for the workshops and to perform with them.

“Because of the pandemic we haven't had the chance to meet up with Camerata since 2019, which means only one of our orchestra members has performed with them before,” Delwyn said.

“We know how much music education means to the members of Camerata, and how seriously they take their engagement with our members, so we are delighted that they are taking the time to visit Bundaberg again.

“Being able to take time to workshop with them, ask questions about both playing and careers as artists, and then of course refining their own playing skills in performance is invaluable.

“They are generous, dedicated and absolutely amazing musicians and it is fantastic fun to collaborate with musicians of this calibre.

“The members of Camerata are world class performers, so just going along to their concert is valuable for our members.”
