A three-storey, 40-room motel has been approved in Bundaberg’s city centre on the site of the former Meekak Korean Restaurant.

The motel will feature a mix of studio and one, two and three-bedroom units, recreation areas, a podium level pool and a communal kitchen and breakfast room.

Bundaberg Regional Council group manager development Michael Ellery said the new motel site was located a convenient distance from the airport and Bundaberg CBD.

“This proposed new motel will provide a new option for short term accommodation close to the Bundaberg city centre which we know is in high demand,” Mr Ellery said.

“In addition to tourists, Council projects including the Bundaberg Multiplex and the proposed regional aquatic facility are anticipated to create increased interest in short term accommodation for corporate and sporting events.

“This attractive and modern development will be a most welcome addition to the accommodation mix available in Bundaberg city area.

“The development will provide 40 covered car spaces as well as eight visitor car spaces ensuring that surrounding businesses will not be impacted.”

The development site is located at 222 Bourbong Street, Bundaberg at the former Sizzler Restaurant building.

The building was most recently used for the Meekak Korean restaurant which has been closed since March.
