Sections of Hughes Road and Watsons Road in Bargara will be closed to through traffic from Tuesday, 4 June while a new roundabout is constructed.
Motorists are advised that Hughes Road from Durdins Road to Watsons Road, and Watsons Road from Judith Street to Seaview Road, will be closed to all through traffic from Tuesday for approximately 12 weeks.
Traffic control measures will be in place with appropriate signage displayed while the roads are closed. Through traffic is requested to use the signed detours.
Bundaberg Regional Council has engaged Berajondo Earthmoving and Haulage as the principal contractor to build stage three of the Hughes Road Extension project.
Acting Mayor Bill Trevor said the project was part of a strategy to improve connectivity between coastal communities and to reduce traffic on local urban roads.
“Service relocation works are now complete and the culvert widening on Wessells Road is scheduled for completion on Friday, 31 May,” Cr Trevor said.
“Works to construct the roundabout and associated infrastructure at the intersection of Hughes Road and Watsons Road are due to commence next week over a period of 12 weeks, weather permitting.”
Construction activities are expected to be carried out between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 6am to 5pm Saturdays.
“The contractor will liaise directly with affected residents to maintain property access and provide suitable arrangements for waste collection services throughout construction,” Cr Trevor said.
“Council is aware of the inconvenience construction work causes and thanks residents and road users in advance for their patience and cooperation.
“Residents need to be aware of construction equipment and all construction safety signage needs to be adhered to.”
