History on show

Discover the diverse, rich history that lies behind the fascinating town of Childers with the Childers Festival Historic Bus Tour.

Long-time resident Warren Martin has been conducting the tour event for the past ten years.

“I begin with discussing the geological formation of this Isis area and the traditional owners,” he said.

“I also talk about the first pioneering people who came through here with cattle and sheep then the discovery of the Isis scrub.”

Mr Martin said his tour also highlighted the timber and sugar industry as well as the amazing produce the region grows.

He said his tour wasn't just for visitors to the region, it would also be an interesting insight for the locals.

“You just have to have a look at the place to see the whole town is basically heritage listed,” he said.

“There is so much history here.

“I find that people who participate in my tours already know small parts but even locals end up finding out things they never knew before.”

Mr Martin is a fourth-generation resident of Childers and said he loved everything about his town.

“I went through school here and came back as a teacher and now I am retired and have land here,” he said.

“I can't think of a better place to live.”

The Childers Festival Historic Bus Tour will be held on Saturday 27 July at 12.30 pm.
