If old buildings and outstanding architecture make your toes tingle you may consider volunteering some time for Open House Bundaberg on Saturday, 24 August.

Bundaberg Regional Council planning and development spokesman Cr Ross Sommerfeld said a total of 19 volunteers were required to run a successful Open House event but bigger numbers would be welcomed and appreciated.

“2018 saw close to 1900 visitors experience the architectural history of Bundaberg through a variety of buildings at our Open House event,” Cr Sommerfeld said.

“Now in its fourth year another successful day is anticipated with both ticketed properties selling out in record time.”

The Burnett Mary Regional Group Building is one of the new additions to the 2019 Open House program.

He said 13 properties would be showcased in the 2019 event including three new properties.

“The addition of St Andrew's Church, former Commercial Bank of Sydney (Burnett Mary Regional Group) and the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre will entice past Open House attendees to venture out and experience more of the beautiful buildings Bundaberg has to offer.”

Returning volunteer Bev Devlin recommends volunteering for the event. She said she enjoys meeting lovely people and learning something new about the history of Bundaberg.

“Reviving all the old stories and exploring the buildings of Bundaberg is a great celebration of where we have been and what Bundaberg has come from,” Bev said.
