St Andrews United Church is new to Bundaberg Open House in 2019.

Whether it’s a place of worship, essential infrastructure or tourist attraction there’s no shortage of unique and interesting buildings set to open their doors for Open House in 2019.

Open House is back in 2019 opening the doors to 13 of the region’s most unique buildings on Saturday, 24 August.

Bundaberg Regional Council planning and development spokesman Cr Ross Sommerfeld said it was an opportunity for residents to access buildings that were not always open to the public.

“Bundaberg Open House is a celebration of our history through architecture,” Cr Sommerfeld said.

“These are buildings that we pass on a regular basis and often admire from the outside. This event is your chance to take a closer look.

“Participants can take a self-guided tour by collecting a booklet and heading direct to particular buildings – or better yet following the entire trail.”

He said all locations were free to tour as part of the event however bookings were required for the East Bundaberg Water Tower and Moncrieff backstage tours due to health and safety restrictions.

“We are required to limit the number of people accessing these particular buildings at any one time and as such bookings are required and numbers are limited.

“In previous years the East Bundaberg Water Tower has proven highly popular and does always book out so I do encourage people to book as soon as possible if they are interested in either of these tours.”

Tickets for the East Bundaberg Water Tower will be available at moncrieff-bundaberg.com.au from Friday 28 June.

Moncrieff backstage ticket tours are available now at moncrieff-bundaberg.com.au.

St Andrew’s Uniting Church joins Open House

St Andrew’s Seventh Day Adventist Church senior pastor Daniel Kewley said St Andrew’s Uniting Church is one of the buildings that are new to Bundaberg Open House in 2019.

The church is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register and was erected in 1932 as St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church replacing an earlier Presbyterian church erected on the site in 1882.

“At the time it cost somewhere around 12,000 pounds which is roughly equating these days to about $2.5 million,” Pastor Kewley said.

“What I love about the building is the brick, the brick is such a nice colour with the stained glass windows and the silky oak arches is pretty special.

“What we get the most feedback about is the bells and often we have people that’ll come in and play them during the week so you can hear them all the way through the CBD.”

He said the whole church building except the tower would be open on August 24 for Open House.

“A special building like this that has been in the community for almost 100 years, we want the community to feel like they have ownership of it and that they are welcome here any time.”
