Debra Randall has coordinated the building of about 500 Bundaberg Region homes. This work was recognised when she was named HIA Queensland’s Professional Business Woman — Building for 2019.
Debra has been the operations manager of Bundy Homes for 12 years since she and husband Michael took over the company.
Once the slab is poured Debra is responsible for the coordination of all trades and liaison with clients — a field which Michael said was typically male dominated.
That’s why he nominated her for the state award.
“She keeps a tight control on costs and she also liaises with clients once we actually start the build,” Michael said.
“She’s got a client focus, she runs the trades and she does a great job.”
Michael said it was a big deal for Debra to receive the accolade.
“It’s a pretty hotly contested field. There was probably 50 nominations all up,” he said.
Debra said she was thrilled to receive the recognition.
“It’s a really big honour,” she said.
“It makes you feel appreciated but secondly all your hard work you put in, it’s like it really paid off that you were recognised.”
Debra said she was surprised to receive the award.
Having left a successful career as sales manager for Bundaberg Broadcasters to take over Bundy Homes, Debra said it was rewarding to have left a mark in the building industry.
“It’s lovely to have so many appreciative people moving into their new homes,” she said.
Congratulations flow for Debra's HIA award
Debra was unable to attend the awards ceremony so HIA Regional Manager Ken Smith made a special trip to Bundaberg to present her with the trophy.
HIA Executive Director Michael Roberts congratulated Debra on her achievement.
In announcing the award on its website, HIA stated that Debra was referred to as the mover and shaker of the family business.
“[Debra is] passionate about customer service and driving top quality outcomes for her customers,” the website said.
“Debra has become extremely conversant with the technical aspects of residential building and has driven a number of cost reduction and quality control initiatives.
“With Debra’s background in media she has effectively branded Bundy Homes position in the local market.
“Debra is also a successful breeder of dogs and horses, and balances all her commitments and passions by working hard at everything she does.”
