Santa's elf (Kylie Lane) and Mrs Claus (Renee Dewhurst) met with the alpacas ahead of the Pageant of Lights parade.

This year’s Pageant of Lights parade will have a special new feature with local alpacas helping to lead Santa’s sleigh through the Bundaberg CBD.

The roughly one-year-old helpers are from Littabella Alpacas and Ivory Park Suri Alpacas and have been busy with dress rehearsals in the lead up to the event on Thursday 5 December.

Littabella Alpacas owner Nicole Read said the popular and docile creatures were no strangers to events but she was excited to have them as part of Pageant of Lights.

“We thought it would be a wonderful event to showcase alpacas working with Santa,” Nicole said.

Pageant of Lights alpacas have quirky features

Apart from looking adorable, she said alpacas had plenty of quirky and endearing features.

“Alpacas spit when feeling annoyed or at each other over food.

“They ‘cush’ when seated meaning they fold their legs under their body.

“Alpacas love to sunbathe.

“They have the most beautiful large eyes making them extra adorable!”
