The wait is almost over for the much-anticipated Isis Memorial Pool reopening with the facility set to open its doors to swimmers next Friday, 20 December.
Community excitement has been building as the impressive new domed shade structure took shape over the pool.
The upgrade has also seen the pool heated with solar panels incorporated to keep future running costs down.
Isis Memorial Pool manager Shelley Whitaker said she was looking forward to the reopening and sharing the upgraded facility with the community.
“It looks wonderful,” Shelley said.
“It’s going to be a really functional and practical space for everyone.
“It all looks fresh and there’s a few extra changes [the community] don’t know about.”
Shelley said she and husband Hayden had decided to “make it a whole new approach” and renovated the kiosk while the pool was closed for the upgrade.
“It’s amazing what a couple coats of paint will do!”
Isis Memorial Pool reopening worth the wait
Shelley said it was their second season in charge of the pool and she was looking forward to a bumper swim season following the Isis Memorial Pool reopening.
“We’ll be running almost all -ear round,” she said.
“We hope to see a lot more people in there enjoying it, exercising or learning to swim.”
She said they were hoping to increase the number of swimming lessons they offered now that the upgrade had taken place.
“The facility will be a lot more user friendly for it.
“The kids won’t be so cold and will be able to maintain focus in a controlled environment.”
The possibility of longer opening times also provide potential benefits for fitness activities and allow the squad swimmers to maintain their skills.
“There is a good number of people that use the pool to stay fit.
“It will hopefully be a hive of activity.”
The Isis Memorial Pool will be reopening at 6am on Friday 20 December ahead of the official opening celebrations on January 24.
