A Bundaberg junior fustal team won the Gold Coast International Cup and will now contest the world championships in Florida later this year.

The four-day event was held last week with eight players from the Under 13 Boys Wildcats Bundaberg futsal team finishing undefeated after 10 games.

Coach Adam Nasso said the team played against rivals from NSW, Victoria, Queensland and New Zealand across the four days.

“The tournament had over 165 teams competing from all over Australia and New Zealand,” he said.

“It's a quite a prestigious event and the boys did amazingly to play all games undefeated.”

Adam said the win would take the the team to Orlanda, Florida, later this year for the World Futsal Championships.

He said he was proud of his boys, who had trained hard to get to their winning position.

“They trained all summer with Jack Ramsey from 3BZ Fitness as well as with the Wildcats head Dylan Cairney and the Under 15s team,” he said.

“For them to go compete against some big city centres and come out on top, it's fantastic and shows they were able to keep their head in what is a very fast-paced sport.

“I can spruik all I want about my coaching skills but at the end of the day it's about how hard the team worked and their determination and skill-set.”

Adam said it was the first time his team had come home with such a big win and he thanked everyone involved.

“A big thanks to the parents who are such a great support and of course to the boys themselves who put in a really top effort,” he said.
