Local dog owners have more opportunity for pooch play time with new agility equipment installed in the region's off-leash dog areas.
Mayor Jack Dempsey said the dog parks featured four new pieces of equipment, including a low bridge, jump through tunnel, six weave poles and a round tunnel.
“We are very excited to announce the new equipment, located at Lions Park, Daph Geddes Park, Mary Kinross Park and Jayteens Park,” he said.
“The equipment was purchased and installed in response to requests from park users wishing to further stimulate and increase their dogs enjoyment.
“From what we have heard so far, dog owners are very excited about the installations that have been taking place.”
Mayor Dempsey said the agility equipment would provide many benefits, including increased mental and physical stimulus for dogs and their owners.
“It’s well documented that dogs who are well socialised and exercised are likely to be healthier, happier and less aggressive and this equipment will facilitate that,” he said.
“It's also a further opportunity for owners to socialise with other owners, as popular dog parks often become community hubs.”
Mayor Dempsey said the equipment had been placed strategically in each park to allow for a degree of separation from general users if required.
He said the variety of equipment offered plenty of stimulation for all dogs great and small.
“The equipment has been selected to provide enjoyment across as broad a range of dog ability and sizes as possible,” he said.
“The ‘box’ design/arrangement provides for different patterns to be used to further stimulate and challenge the dog.
“There will still be a large space for ball throwing and more agile dogs to stretch their legs.”
Installation of the new agility equipment will be complete and usable at all dog parks from this Thursday, with Daph Geddes Park work to be finished by Wednesday next week.
Bundaberg Regional Council reminds residents while off-leash dog parks are open, social-distancing measures should continue to be adhered to with no more than 10 people using the space at any time.

Would council look at creating a dog park at Woodgate for the many dogs that both reside in and visit this area regularly?
Exactly Stephanie. Woodgate, the forgotten town. AND how about that footpath from Kinkuna Waters into Woodgate as per original plans when estate established.
What about off lead beaches here. Have heard plenty of comments from visiting dog owners that they would rather go to Hervey Bay as there are plenty of beaches welcoming dog owners there. Would cost little to do even if there is only an early morning period of freedom.
