Apple Tree Creek road upgrade

Bunns Road
Machinery and a site office have been established adjacent to Bunns Road as Council prepares to seal a gravel section of the road.

Road improvements are continuing throughout the Childers area with a section of Bunns Road at Apple Tree Creek identified for a safety upgrade.

Council staff will undertake the work which involves bitumen sealing of a 900-metre section of dirt road near the intersection with North South Road.

The work will involve traffic management protocols and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during the construction period.

Divisional representative and Roads portfolio spokesman Cr Bill Trevor said the work would involve grading and reshaping the section of road prior to a bitumen seal.

“This 900-metre section is the final stretch of Bunns Road that remained unsealed,” Cr Trevor said.

“The work will deliver improved safety aspects for the growing numbers of motorists who use Bunns Road to connect from the Apple Tree Creek area to North South Road which then allows direct access to the Isis Highway and destinations west.

“Locations in and around Apple Tree Creek are experiencing growth and it's important that road users have a safe, all weather surface when travelling.”

Cr Trevor said the project will be funded by a $300,000 grant through the State Government’s Works For Queensland program.

“Depending on weather conditions, the upgrade is anticipated to take around five weeks to complete and motorists are advised that traffic control measures will be in place during the construction period.”

He said affected property owners within range of the work site will be advised in relation to property access and placement of refuse bins for collection.

“This project is another example of the value of the Works For Queensland initiative which is delivering numerous smaller, but essential projects across the streets and neighbourhoods of the Bundaberg Region.”

  1. With the extra funding provided by the Commonwealth Govt would the council complete the bitumen on the the roadsides around the Bowls Club as there will be increased traffic due to their expansion. Parts of Whalley St are dangerous, especially when heading towards the shopping centre. Your consideration is appreciated.
