Growing up on a farm as a young boy Cody Horwood has fond memories that has inspired him to start local business The Great Tea Company.

Cody said his family had always been big tea drinkers, and the memory of running down to his grandmother’s cottage, from the family farmhouse, of a morning to share a pot of herbal tea was time he cherished.

Now the father-of-four is taking those precious memories and he has created The Great Tea Company stocking a range of herbal teas, using natural ingredients.

Cody, who is also undertaking a boiler maker apprenticeship at Enmach, said he launched The Great Tea Company at the end of July, and it was his goal to build a local wholesale business, supplying cafes and restaurants with his organic teas.

He said The Great Tea Company currently had a range of six blends with flavours including Hibiscus Flower, Acai Berry Tea, Strong Organic Breakfast Tea and Apple Pie Tea.

The Great Tea Company has a range of six blends that included flavours including Hibiscus Flower, Acai Berry Tea, Strong Organic Breakfast Tea and Apple Pie Tea.

“I’ve started from scratch and at the moment these are pre-made blends that are dispatched from Bondi Beach (Bondi Beach Tea), but as I expand it’s definitely on the cards to make my own blend,” Cody said.

“We have six blends available now and will be building up as we get more clients on board.”

Cody said the herbal teas were perfect for hot and cold brew, and he said drinking tea was the perfect way to naturally boost the body’s immune system.

“I’m a big tea drinker, I guess it is a little odd to find a male who is into this type of business, but my family has always been in to using herbs for everything,” he said.

“I’ve worked on and off in hospitality in the past, predominantly in sales, and I am excited to where this will lead.

“I held a tasting event that went well, I’m leaning towards a goal of hosting a range of high teas around Bundaberg.”
