As solar uptake in the Bundaberg Region continues to shine, Twyford Solar and Electrical has expanded to meet demand.

Twyford Solar and Electrical owner Matt Twyford said solar demand for family homes had spiked this year as more families were staying home due to COVID-19 restrictions and to save electricity costs.

Matt said electricity was the only utility where families could physically put measures in place to help save money and it was great to see so many in the local region taking advantage of this.

Last year Energy Minister Anthony Lynham said more than more than $600,000 had been paid in rebates to landlords through the Solar for Renters trial.

And the Bundaberg 4670 postcode area was recognised as having the highest uptake of solar panel installations in the country, according to a Clean Energy Australia report.

“The solar side of the business has grown, and grown due to higher and higher power prices,” Matt said.

“In this day of higher and higher household bills at least you can make a difference with the power bill.

“Demand has definitely increased due to more families being at home more often and using more power.

“This has forced people to look into the energy cost and where they can make savings.”

Matt said the growth in solar had led to his small business expanding to a new shop, now located at McLean Street, and gave him the potential to add more employees in the future.

“We have recently upsized and relocated our business as we have outgrown our previous location,” he said.

“I have always strived for the best possible customer service and our new location 1/23 Mclean Street now has a complete showroom, giving our customers a visual of our products and what we have to offer.

“We have roots going back 35 years in the business industry with Trevor Twyford (dad) owning Twyfords Eastside Motors.

“Watching him succeed and support my family as a kid growing up inspired me to start my own business and continue the family name.”
