A new medical surgery is set to expand the Bundaberg West medical hub after a development application was approved by Bundaberg Regional Council.
The building, located on Bourbong Street, sits directly next to the Margaret Rose Centre and is across the road from the Bundaberg ambulance station.
The new medical surgery would also be just a short distance from both the Mater Misericordiae and Bundaberg Base Hospitals.
Bundaberg Regional Council Development Group Manager Michael Ellery said the applicant proposed to refurbish the existing building, previously used for residential purposes.
“The conversion to a medical surgery will see the building footprint remain largely unchanged, with the front patio to be converted to a ramp,” Michael said.
“Parking for up to 10 cars will be provided on-site ensuring this new medical facility will not have any impact on the existing Bundaberg West medical hub services.
“In addition to the larger medical facilities including the two hospitals, this area already has established private health care practices making it a logical location to further expand on this with a new medical surgery.”
The application said the medical surgery would deliver on performance outcomes sought for the Bundaberg West medical hub including “provision of a health-related business and community activity that complements and supports the nearby hospitals”.
