There are no excuses for the post-Christmas boredom blues these school holidays with exciting new skills to learn in the Arts Summer School.

Bundaberg Regional Council is hosting a series of fun, creative events next month for young people aged 8-18, and Rebecca McDuff, Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery Director, said a wide range of interests were catered for.

“Summer schools give young people a fantastic opportunity to develop skills that they may use later, such as creation or production work, or mural projects,” Rebecca said.

She said the Arts Summer School fun kicks off with the Circus Skills Workshop presented by Cluster Arts, at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre on January 4, with participants learning acrobatics, tumbling, juggling, basic hula hoops, skipping and dance.

“We have a lot of people who have done skills-based workshops in the past, so it’s really great, once again, to see the Circus Skills Workshop on offer” Rebecca said.

The art gallery is offering two workshops based on the concept of street art, both at the School of Arts Building, hosted by mural artist Simon De Groot (January 5-7) and Team Snipz (January 13-17) who specialise in stencil art and paste-ups.

Rounding out a packed program are the Dead Puppet Society’s Puppetry Workshop on January 11, also at the School of Arts Building and the Pass the Mic Stand Up Comedy Workshop on January 23 at the same venue.
